Submissions and Terms

Earthbound is always looking for creative talent for our projects, as well as ideas for new projects. We ask that before you submit anything to us, to please take a moment to read a bit about us, our expectations of our creators and what we want creators to expect from us.

Who we are, and what we do:

Earthbound Comics is a company dedicated to putting out and promoting quality comics from a variety of creators. We’ve chosen to bypass the traditional Direct Market method, in favor of a POD (print on demand) model, because we feel that that by cutting out the financial hurdles of the direct market, we can focus more on CREATING COMICS instead of financing them. And, frankly, with enthusiastic creators across the U.S., and the internet, we feel that we can do a much better job promoting and selling the comics ourselves online and at shows.

The “Deal” and the Advantage of Earthbound

Anyone involved with creating comics for even a short time has probably run into people offering the infamous “back end deal.” This usually involves working for free on a project that MAY get published, and getting paid on the back-end IF a profit is turned. We simply don’t believe in that.

Our comics DO get published, all creators who work on our comics have the opportunity to MAKE MONEY for their work once its published, as well as getting the exposure of being a part of Earthbound. We will do PR and promote all of our products.

How does it work? Glad you asked. Basically, by being a creator on one of our books, in addition to getting your comp copies, we will also allow you to purchase as many copies as you’d like at cost (plus shipping expenses), as many times as you’d like, which you can sell for 100% profit that you keep. In turn, money that Earthbound makes from selling comics stays with Earthbound. There are some minor restrictions (see below), but for the most part, this is how it works.

Why do it this way? We feel there are three significant advantages of working this way. #1, the most obvious, is that it saves us the headache of figuring out who gets what from here until eternity, allowing us to focus on putting out more comics. #2, Its the easiest way to provide an opportunity for a creator to make an unlimited amount money. #3, with creators across the country (or world?) selling our products, that strengthens the Earthbound brand, which its beneficial for everyone involved with Earthbound.

Submission Guidelines

- We do not have a specific format for submissions, just make it as clear as possible and use common sense.

- We’d prefer links to easy to navigate websites (IE – deviantart.com or comicspace.com) to large cumbersome files in our email. In fact, if you must submit a file, we’d prefer a link to where we can download the file vs attachments (we suggest box.net, yousendit.com or similar sites). Text documents from writers would be an exception. We are not currently accepting physical submissions.

- We’re open to submissions for specific creative talent jobs that we need to fill, as well as completed or pitched stories with a creative team in place. Please be sure to describe the full nature of your submission when you submit it.

- Please do not misrepresent yourself with your submission. We want a clear idea of what you would like to do, and how well you can do it. For example, if you want to pencil, then please only show penciling samples, not samples of stuff that has been inked by someone else, or by yourself, if you don’t plan on doing any inking. Another example could be if you represent a creative team, please show examples of work by the entire team you plan to use. Basically, don’t show us samples of talent you can’t provide.

- While we always seem to have something in the works, we may dig your stuff, but not be ready to use you at the moment. We will respond to all submissions, and let you know if we’re keeping you in mind for something in the future.

- We do hope to offer a variety of genres, but we’re currently most interested in Crime-Nior, Adventure, Sci-Fi, Superhero and some period genres. No manga. We absolutely WILL NOT be publishing anything pornographic, exploitative, for hate promoting. Don’t bother submitting such material as we won’t even consider it.
